What do I need to know prior to my exam?

All patients must provide a current insurance card and photo identification card at the time of their appointment.

When you schedule your appointment, NMI staff will provide specific instructions based on your exam requirements. Please carefully follow any instructions given to you about eating, drinking or taking medication.

You may bring someone to accompany you during the exam. Parents may remain with children during the exam in most cases.

What can I expect when I arrive to my appointment?

NMI staff will thoroughly explain the procedure, answer any questions you may have, and may ask you about your medical history. If you have not submitted the required paperwork prior to your exam, you will need to arrive at least 20 minutes early so that you can complete the paperwork. You will be assigned a dressing room for your personal belongings. It is best to leave all valuable items at home if you don't absolutely need them. If you are having an MRI performed, you will be exposed to a magnetic field, therefore any metal or credit cards are prohibited.

How long will my exam take?

An MRI can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. A CT scan can take anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes. In some cases a scan takes as little as 10 minutes, depending on the test prescribed.

When and how do I get my results of the scan?

Your exam results will be forwarded to the referring physician within 24-48 hours of your visit. Your referring physician will follow up with you regarding your results. Please note that HIPAA laws restrict us from discussing results directly with patients.

How can I get a copy of my images?

NMI offers a complimentary CD with your images upon request. Please allow for 24 hours for us to make your CD.  Please note that your initial CD is complimentary–however, there will be a $5 charge per CD for any additional copies.
